Postcards from the Edge: A Benefit for Visual AIDS

Postcards from the Edge is an exhibition and benefit sale of over 1500 original, postcard-sized works of art by internationally renowned and emerging artists. Each piece is exhibited anonymously, and the identity of the artist is revealed only after the work is purchased. Proceeds support the activities of Visual AIDS, enabling the organization to produce AIDS-focused art programs and provide supplies and assistance to artists living with HIV/AIDS.

Welcome to Our World: Artistic Noise Collaborative Art Event

The young people of Artistic Noise, in collaboration with MPS Art Therapy, invited the public to participate in their mural installation. Engagement included offering the youth creative opportunities to assume leadership and receive social support. Artistic Noise is a private nonprofit that exists to bring the freedom and power of artistic practice to young people who are incarcerated, on probation, or otherwise involved in the justice system. This project was developed and implemented by MPS Art Therapy faculty member Liz DelliCarpini.
f-hole: A Live Exhibition

In celebration of Topaz Arts' 16th year, the gallery prepared a space for participants to fill in. Art supplies were provided, along with light refreshments, and an open mic. The event (named for the sound hole of a violin), highlighted the talents and diversity of the artists living in the surrounding community.
Memento

Memento was a pickling project organized by artist Tattfoo Tan. Photographs of mementos were submitted and the photos, representing "memories" were placed in glass jars filled with various fluids and solutions that, over time, either preserved or degraded the memento/memory held within. Memento was part of Tan's "Cuisine Du Jour" collaboration with an ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages) class in the Lower East Side Tenement Museum's "Shared Journeys" program, which explored the contributions immigrants made to American cuisine.

Organized by CityArts in cooperation with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation and Boost Mobile RockCorps (BMRC), volunteers who gave 4 hrs of their time to transform local community spaces received a ticket to exclusive RockCorps concerts. On the 4-year anniversary of 9/11, a large-scale tile mural was completed at the Jacob H. Schiff Playground in NYC.
The Move Project

A reception, dinner, and celebration marked the completion of the NMAI move of the Archeology Collection from New York City to Washington, D.C. while honoring the significance of the Research Branch (RB) in the history of the museum. A tour of the facility for guests and dignitaries, a concert by band Corn-Bred (Best Blues/Jazz Group NAMMY-2007), and an exhibition featuring the artwork of project participants entitled "Full Circle" were also among the festivities.
